Out here on the homestead, where the roosters crow with more reliability than my alarm clock, and Zeus, our delusional guard cow, thinks he’s the secret service, politics often feels a world away. Yet, even the buzz of the bees can’t drown out the rumbles from the White House these past years. As a woman tending to both my garden and my thoughts, I’ve watched and pondered—sometimes amused, often bemused—on what Trump’s new presidency will mean from my little patch of the world.
Over cups of strong coffee in the early mornings, my husband and I often find ourselves discussing the economic track of our country. He firmly believes that Trump’s approach to business and economy could be what we need to rejuvenate our nation’s financial health. I find myself agreeing; there’s a practicality to some of the policies from his previous term that resonates with our own ways of managing the homestead—straightforward, often uncomplicated. Our conversations may wander from topic to topic, but they always circle back to how leadership styles like Trump’s, focused on economic gains and business-like efficiency, might just be what’s necessary to navigate out of economic turmoil.
Donald Trump’s policies, characterized by a business-centric approach, have shown significant impacts on the economic landscape, resonating with many who value straightforward, results-driven leadership. His tax reforms aimed to stimulate economic growth by reducing the burden on businesses and individuals, theoretically setting the stage for increased investment and consumption. The deregulation efforts under his administration were also pivotal, intended to cut red tape and free businesses from what many saw as overbearing governmental oversight (and boy can the government be overbearing…). Whoever, many people think he is out to just help businesses without realizing that just like culture, the economy starts at the top and trickles down. The better businesses can do the better it is for the economy and people like you and I. Things like inflation go down, salaries and new businesses take on a new life of their own. These policies were designed to create a more dynamic business environment where companies could thrive, innovate, and expand more freely. Additionally, his focus on renegotiating trade deals was aimed at bolstering American industries by promoting fairer terms that benefit domestic producers and workers. For those looking at the economic scoreboard, these moves suggest a playbook geared towards enhancing economic efficiency and growth, appealing to those who prioritize economic metrics in assessing the success of a presidency.
Now, onto the man himself—Trump’s demeanor towards women, while often criticized in the media, has been seen by some as straightforward and unapologetically direct. Despite accusations and his own bold statements, supporters argue that his approach reflects a different era, one I miss, of straightforward communication, not intended to offend but to be transparent. For many, including myself, this aspect of his personality is viewed through the lens of intent versus impact, recognizing that while his style may not align with modern sensibilities (in my opinion, the world has become much to sensitive), it does not necessarily diminish his leadership capabilities.
Internationally, Trump approached global politics with the assertiveness of a seasoned business leader. His unorthodox style and negotiation tactics may have shifted the dynamics of the U.S.’s relationships abroad, akin to a bold move in a high-stakes chess game. This approach stirred much discussion and sometimes tension, but also aimed to prioritize American interests, resonating with those who felt previous administrations were too cautious. Domestically, his presidency highlighted a broad spectrum of opinion, reflecting a nation of diverse viewpoints where his directness was either seen as refreshing or polarizing, demonstrating that his impact, much like the landscape, varies widely across the American tapestry.
I firmly believe that leadership, especially at the highest levels of government, requires a robust display of strength and decisiveness to ensure national security and stability. Those in power must embody the strength and authority necessary to safeguard our nation from various threats, both foreign and domestic. A powerful leader instills confidence not only among the citizens but also positions the country as a formidable presence on the global stage. This type of leadership is crucial for deterring adversaries, forging influential alliances, and navigating the complex landscape of international politics. The essence of true leadership is the ability to act decisively and with conviction, qualities Biden nor Harris possess and qualities that are indispensable for maintaining safety and upholding the values upon which the United States was founded.
In short, you know when a bull is a bull and Trump is most definitely a bull. We need our bulls and our roosters out there guiding and protecting us. Just as bulls lead their herds and roosters command the coop, so too must our leaders take charge and exhibit strength, guiding us with a firm hand and a clear vision. Now that’s not to say a woman couldn’t possess these qualities and be our bull, but unfortunately we haven’t been given one as a choice yet. Personally I’m waiting for Kristi Noem to step up to the plate…..
